02.10.24: New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Libra
"Emotional dependency is not immature or pathological; it is our
greatest strength."
– Sue Johnson, The Love Secret: The revolutionary new science of romantic relationships
Dear One,
What a wild couple of weeks it's been! More people than ever have been reaching out, asking what the heck is happening in the cosmos. It feels like we're collectively squeezing through a very tight gate, hoping to emerge on the other side.
I know many of you are going through intense times, facing shadows, past patterns, and future worries. As always, I can only say: hang in there. This process is for the good, and I truly believe the other side will reward us for the work we're putting in.
Right now, I'm sitting in an Uber in Mexico City, writing these lines on my phone because otherwise, I won't have time to share them. Why? I've just started something I've been dreaming about for four years: a somatic education that will accompany me for the next three years and it demands most of my time and presence these days.
BUT – since I committed to writing these love letters over a year ago, my Capricorn planets won't let you down. You'll see that many of these lines are inspired by what I'm learning, and I hope they serve you as much as they've served me.
SOLAR ECLIPSE IN LIBRA
As you might remember, two weeks ago we had a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, kicking off a new two-year cycle.
If you've been paying attention, you'll know that eclipses always come in pairs. So, today we're experiencing a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra, part of a series of eclipses that began in April 2023.
Since then, we've had several eclipses on the Aries-Libra axis, highlighting the tension between "Me" (Aries) and "You" (Libra). It's worth reflecting on what's been unfolding for you since April 2023 regarding what you want for yourself versus how you engage in relationships.
Collectively and personally, we've been working through these dynamics for the past two years. With this second-to-last eclipse on the Aries-Libra axis (the final one will be early 2025), we can get a glimpse of how far we've come.
SOLAR ECLIPSE, ASTRONOMICALLY SPEAKING
A solar eclipse is basically the Moon photobombing the Sun.
Picture this: the Sun is doing its usual thing, shining brightly, when suddenly the Moon slides in and says, "Nope, it's my time to shine (or block)!"
For a few minutes, it's like the universe is playing a cosmic game of hide-and-seek. The giant Sun, which lights up our whole planet, gets overshadowed by the much smaller Moon, who just happens to be in the right place at the right time to steal the spotlight.
That's as far as my astronomical knowledge – gracias and goodnight :)
A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE YOUR WORK
This Solar Eclipse takes place on a New Moon in Libra, a time that's perfect for setting intentions and starting new cycles.
Take a moment (or more) to relax, close your eyes, and reflect on what you've been working on these past years.
Many of you, who I know personally, have been leaving behind toxic relationship dynamics and embracing healthier ones—myself included.
I know how many dark times you've must have faced, and how difficult it can be to leave behind people you've loved, because deep down, you knew you deserved a different kind of love—a healthier, more fulfilling kind.
I know, from personal experience, how painful that path can be.
In her book “Hold Me Tight”, Dr. Sue Johnson, a couple therapist, writes:
“We have to dive below to discover the basic problem: these couples have disconnected emotionally; they don't feel emotionally safe with each other. What couples and therapists too often do not see is that most fights are really protests over emotional disconnection. Underneath all the distress, partners are asking each other: Can I count on you, depend on you? Are you there for me? Will you respond to me when I need, when I call? Do I matter to you? Am I valued and accepted by you? Do you need me, rely on me? The anger, the criticism, the demands, are really cries to their lovers, calls to stir their hearts, to draw their mates back in emotionally and reestablish a sense of safe connection.”
The archetype of Libra is really there to remind us that we're not wired for emotional disconnection but for safe connection. We're interdependent beings who need love, care and touch – emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
THE SKELETON AND HOW IT CAN SUPPORT US
During the first week of my somatic training, we've been learning about the skeleton of our bodies. In one exploration, my teacher said:
"Often we want to force transformation. But what if we allow our bones to support us? What if we don't force anything, but instead let our bones sustain us through the processes we're moving through?"
That hit me deeply with these eclipse energies that can feel really tranformative. So, I'd like to ask you:
What are you currently moving through in this eclipse window that you'd like to be supported with by your bones? What process is unfolding that doesn't need to be forced, but rather allowed to flow through you with the support of the gentle strength of your body?
THE TRANSFORMATIONAL POTENTIAL BETWEEN ECLIPSES
This mysterious time between eclipses invites us to become students of life once more, bowing to the uncertainty that life presents.
While Libra is all about connection and relationships, it's also tied to co-dependency and karmic contracts in its shadow. So, what old paradigms are coming to an end, like an old sweater you've worn way too often?
What contracts—whether conscious or unconscious—are no longer serving you? And what kind of love do you now know you deserve: a healthy, compassionate, mutually supportive love, instead of the dramatic up-and-down rollercoaster?
Lilith is conjunct the eclipse today and Mars forms a square with it. Those aspects scream: “I won't take any shit anymore, it's time to claim my power and live it fully rather than playing small" – BUT emotionally connected and in an integrated way rather than roaming around just because I can.
QUESTIONS THE MOON WOULD ASK
If the Moon could speak, it would ask you these questions today:
In what relationships have you tolerated too much?
Where in your life is it time to step into interdependence, and out of co-dependence or hyper-independence?
How can you embrace your relationship shadow just a little more with loving kindness today?
What supports you in trusting life rather than trying to control it?
What seed do you want to plant today for your future relationships?
HOW WELL IS YOUR BALANCE IN THE DARK?
With this Solar Eclipse, Libra, known as the archetype of harmony, relationships, and divine justice, steps in like a celestial diplomat, saying, “Let's recalibrate what hasn't been serving you in your evolution.”
But, with the Sun temporarily blocked by the Moon, it's as if the universe is pulling the rug out from under our carefully curated balance, our feet shaking, forcing us to question where we've been too focused on pleasing others or seeking validation out of a lack-mentality.
The archetype of Libra invites us to seek inner harmony and acceptance, but this eclipse adds a painful twist: In the shadow, there's a reckoning with what we've been avoiding, sugarcoating, or over-negotiating in the name of „love“.
Like a cosmic challenge to not just seek peace, but to confront the chaos within — maybe with a raised eyebrow and a laugh at how life keeps us on our toes and sometimes keeps our heads under the waters.
It's as if the universe is saying, "Balance? Sure, but first, let's see how well you can dance in the dark!"
With love,
Karina
